Plot Summary of The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen

The eighth book in the Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming. Twelve eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. The people who lived in them appear to have vanished, seemingly into thin air.

Maura Isles is driving through the area with a group of friends when they find themselves trapped in a snowstorm. They stumble into the abandoned village to take shelter. Their nightmare has only just begun.

Days later, Jane Rizzoli flies to Wyoming to search for her missing friend. A crashed vehicle has been found with four badly burned bodies still inside. Can one of the corpses be Maura's? Jane's hunt for the truth leads her to Kingdom Come. Where the person who was watching Maura now lies waiting for her ... It's gory, it's gripping, it's Gerritsen.

Reading Order of The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen

Tess Gerritsen's novels are sequential. For maximum readability and enjoyment it is recommended that you read The Killing Place in order (#8 in the Rizzoli & Isles book series).

Is The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen a Good Book?

If you are contemplating reading The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen then you are likely to be wondering if it is a good book. The Killing Place receives lots of good feedback on Good Reads and is rated 4.16/5.

If you are new to Tess Gerritsen books this is a good thriller but as suggested earlier best to read the Tess Gerritsen series in sequence because of the developing friendship between Rizzoli and Isles, who have now become a household name because of the Rizzoli and Isles TV series. If you are just starting out try The Surgeon #1 in the series and follow it up with book 2 The Apprentice.

Aficiandos of Tess Gerritsen books are likely to experience The Killing Place as a solid read though it could be argued that this book is perhaps not as tight and compelling as the early novels in the series.

Given Tess Gerritsen's background in medicine she often includes quite detailed medical examinations and forensics. In this novel expect a fairly graphic autopsy description.

There is a lot of emphasis in Tess Gerritsen's more recent books about relationships and they are, therefore, less plot driven. In her novels she has explored themes such as conspiracy theories, corrupt government and secret societies.

In The Killing Place Tess Gerritsen delves into polygamists cults and black ops. Depending on your bent this may or may not be enough to hook you in from the outset. If it is you are likely to find The Killing Place's 430 or so pages a fascinating read with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
