The Whitcoulls Top 50 Kids Books List for 2019-2020 was announced on 28 September 2020 providing a useful reading list for potential readers and parents wanting to make smart book buy choices. The list is heavy with international favourites such as the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney but there is also a good sprinkling of newcomers and local authors.
Overall 14 authors from New Zealand made it to the list this year including two books in the top 5: the now classic Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy by Lynley Dodd garnered the number #2 slot while Aroha’s Way by Craig Phillips which is geared to helping kids cope with anxiety and uncertainty stormed into third place.
