This year New Zealand books are well represented on the Top 100 list with thirteen titles in all being placed. The top three placegetters were: Aroha by Dr Hinemoa Elder coming in at #20, The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle at #22 and the award-winning bestseller in 2021-2022 Auē by Becky Manawatu at #27.

Three classics that still managed to hang onto their spots in the Top 10 books were Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in 6th place with Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkein at #8 and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee one spot behind.

What Science Fiction and Fantasy Books are on the Whitcoulls Top 100 List?

A new entry to the Top 10 books at #4 is A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas. Her Throne of Glass series also ranked highly at #14 as did Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood at #38.

One surprise entrant taking out the #10 spot was the young adult fantasy adventure series The Grishaverse from Leah Bardugo which began with the Shadow and Bone Trilogy and continues with Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising.
